Welcome to Accolade Golf Plaques

The ‘Links’ Collection.

There are  approximately 200 links courses throughout the world in existence today. Ireland is unique insofar that is has approx 30% of true links courses, a finite resource that is unlikely to expand. So it’s understandable why links courses are the most coveted and revered attractions among the golfing fraternity.

True links soil is mainly sand based and free draining with grasses that are drought resistant. The characteristics of these fine bent and fescue grasses ensure bare lies on fairways.Greens, in particular, can be cut to tight tolerances. This is the original of the species. Links courses are some of the most difficult courses to master and hold a prestigious and much venerated place among golfers.

In the early days, links terrain was an ideal golf habitat for several reasons. The land was naturally undulating and extensive but of little agricultural value and therefore very suitable for this kind of use. Golf primarily was played, by the fortunate few, in the untouched windswept margins of the coast. It is now played by enthusiasts from all over the world who come to Ireland  to test their prowess on these ancestral playing fields. With time the game extended inland and the parkland courses of today offer similar enjoyment albeit with a lush meadow grass covering.
